- Quote TAN in all TDS related documents. Ensure quoting correct TAN while depositing challans.
- While depositing TDS through challan, always double check the assessment year.
- Every person who is liable to deduct tax should deduct the tax at the correct rate as per the applicable rate. If the deductor failed to deduct the tax at the correct rate, interest should be paid on the default amount.
- Every person who is liable to deduct the TDS should deposit the tax within the stipulated time & avoid late payment interest.
- Every person who is liable to deduct should file the TDS return within the stipulated time & avoid Late Filing Fee.
- Quote Correct PAN of the deductee while filing the TDS return. Incorrect PAN may leads to short deduction notice.
- Quote Correct Challan Identification Numbers in TDS Returns. Incorrect challan identification number may lead to short payment default notice.
- Quote Correct Book Identification Numbers in TDS Returns. Incorrect book identification number may lead to short payment payment default notice.
- If the deductor filed a return in any quarter prior to the current quarter, enter Correct Receipt Number of previous Returns.
- Every person liable to deduct TDS should deduct tax at the rate specified in section application. Enter Correct Deduction details & avoid short deduction defaults.
- Every deductor is liable to download & distribute the TDS certificates in Form 16 or 16A within the stipulated time. Download Form 16 or 16A from TRACES portal.
- NSDL will release file validation utilities in reasonable intervals. Use latest FVU downloaded from the NSDL / Protean portal.
- Cross check & verify challans from Income tax efiling portal. This will help to enter the correct challan details in the TDS returns. Always verify Challan details before filing the return & avoid Short Payment Demand

- Aadhaar & PAN Linking Verify the status of PAN before entering the PAN details. This will help to avoid short deduction default.
- File returns through Income tax efiling portal or TIN-FC managed by NSDL only. Unauthorized facilitators may lead you to difficulties.
- Don't share your E Filing Portal Password to unauthorized persons
- Don't share your TRACES User id & Password to unauthorized persons
- Don't report PAN in TDS Return without obtaining a copy
- Don't report savings & deductions without obtaining proof
